OUR
MISSION
To Put Christian principles into practice through programs that promote healthy lifestyles, strong families, and positive youth development to build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all regardless of ability to pay.
YMCA: BUILDING STRONG FAMILIES
Current health statistics clearly illustrate ‘why’ it’s so important for kids and adults alike to lead healthier lifestyles. At the YMCA, we believe families that are strong play a critical role in ‘how’ to make it happen.
-
Families grow stronger and healthier by focusing goals on more than just adding minutes of exercise and cutting out unhealthy snacks.
-
Goals which balance, nurture and strengthen spirit, mind and body are the key to building healthier families for the long term. It’s really the ultimate exercise.
-
Studies confirm again and again the important role that family interaction and strengthening play in the long-term health and well being of its individual members.
-
Participating in family rituals that foster togetherness and communication is strongly linked to adolescent mental health. Teens who eat with their families most days have better grades and less depression and substance abuse than kids who frequently eat on their own.
-
University studies show that young kids and teens whom eat regularly with their families eat more fruits, vegetables, fiber and whole grains and consume less soda and snack food.
-
A 2004 YMCA of the USA study found that parents who received support from community organizations such as YMCAs reported positive experiences for their children, saying the programs enabled their children to engage with other kids, provided positive influence and offered role models.
GET
INVOLVED AS A YMCA VOLUNTEER YMCAs are first and foremost volunteer organizations. To put it in perspective, not every YMCA has a building, but every YMCA has volunteers. All 2,663 YMCAs are volunteer-founded, volunteer-based, and volunteer-led. Volunteers are at the heart of every YMCA and that is why YMCAs are at the heart of community life in more than 10,000 communities nationwide. From helping Civil War troops more than a century ago to international disaster relief efforts today, YMCAs are one of the nation's leading volunteer organizations. As a YMCA volunteer, you can coach a basketball or soccer team, make cookies for our Halloween party, find items for our auction, serve as a role model for young people, help out in the office or at a special event, or be part of a group or committee working on special events. No matter how you help, you'll make a big difference as you work with others to create a feeling of connectedness in your community. The basic definition of a YMCA volunteer is "anyone who willingly gives time to help the YMCA accomplish its mission without getting paid by the YMCA." To solve the problems closest to home-or better yet-prevent them-the YMCA needs more people like you. Do something good. Volunteer at the YMCA.
LOCKERS
The YMCA has lockers available at no cost for day use. If you would like to rent a locker for the year,
the cost is $50 for small locker.
LOST
AND FOUND
The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Lost and found can be claimed at the service desk. We will hold items up to two weeks before they are donated to charity.
CHILD WATCH RATES & HOURS
Enjoy Our Child Watch Service:
Supervised babysitting is available for children while parents enjoy the YMCA facilities. The nursery is available for children 8 weeks to 5 years. Nursery staff reserve the right to limit the number of children in the nursery due to ages of children in care, the number of staff on site, and the number of children in the nursery.
Two hour limit.
Child Watch Hours:
Fee: $1 per hour for first child,
$0.50 for each additional child.
THE AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
This program is for school age children in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. The children involved in the After School Club participate in a number of organized activities including: Arts and Crafts, Homework Help, Sports and Games. A daily snack is also provided. The program hours are 3:00-6:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 2:00-6:00 PM on Fridays. The fees are
$23 for the first child and $20 for each additional child in the family. The hours are extended for early dismissal days but does not include holidays or snow days. Our caring staff ensures that this is a fun and safe environment. We look forward to the new school year and meeting your child. The After School Club will begin on the first day of school. To sign your child up for the After School Club, please contact the YMCA at 258-2388 or stop by to enroll your child.
INSURANCE
Members, guests, day pass users,
and class participants are advised that they use all YMCA premises, facilities, equipment and program activities at their own risk. The YMCA does not carry health or accident insurance on your behalf.
PARTNERS
WITH YOUTH CAMPAIGN
It has been the YMCA's philosophy, both nationally and in the
Linn County area, to assure that its facilities and programs are
open to all regardless of race, religion, age, handicap,
national origin, or ability to pay. We are particularly
concerned here in North Central Missouri that children from
lower income homes have the same opportunity to become involved
with the YMCA as children who are more economically advantaged.
Therefore, the NCM YMCA actively promotes a scholarship program
which provides Y memberships and programs for people in the
lower economic conditions. Although scholarship recipients come from all over our service area, the benchmark that we use to determine whether a child or family is eligible for aid is having a total household income level that is in the lowest quartile for Linn County.
Through the first five months of 2010 the North Central Missouri YMCA has given away more than $11,000 worth of program and membership fees to qualified people.
You may help the YMCA in this
endeavor through gifts to the YMCA Partners with Youth Program. You may earmark your gift to help a particular boy, girl or family, or it may be used wherever the need is the greatest. The YMCA conducts an annual campaign to help kids, but would gladly accept a one-time contribution as well. Any size contribution helps, but inasmuch as it costs an average of $75 per child per year to provide scholarships, gifts of $75 or multiples thereof would be appreciated. Contributions are tax deductible. Please contact
O.J. Rodriguez, Executive Director, for more information on
this worthwhile cause, or mail or bring in your donation to the North Central Missouri YMCA, P.O. Box 403, 1140 West Helm, Brookfield, MO 64628. |
